Welcome to Cooinda Primary School

Courteous of South West TimesCooinda is the indigenous word for 'happy meeting place' and this is true of Cooinda Primary School.

The school opened in 1968 (original name
Trott Street Junior School) and during its first year names were submitted to reflect the ethos of the school. The name accepted by the Department of Education and Training, made Cooinda the first school in Western Australia to hold a name other than the town/district in which it was situated.

Children are seen as individuals and coming together they form a community representing the varied backgrounds that makes
Australia such a wonderful multicultural place in which to live. The school's motto of 'Pride, Courtesy, Sincerity and Respect' is brought to life through Cooinda's friendly, caring and relaxed atmosphere.

Cooinda is a level five school, situated approximately two kilometres south-east of the Bunbury Post Office. In recent years there has been a trend towards subdividing large blocks within the area. On many of these blocks, units and accommodation for single and retired persons (there are three significant retirement villages within one kilometre of the school) have been built. The demographics of the area have changed and school enrolments began to decline in the late 90's.
